Post Front Spring Interchangeable?

I'll post here as well. Are the front coils from all Blazers, Trucks and Suburbans interchangeable from 73-87? Given that the engines are the same. I am guessing the big block springs would give me a lift up front and a six cyl. spring would give me a little drop?

well using springs for a Larger/smaller engine would give you a dropped ride height, but the spring rates would be all screwed up... Ie. BB springs on a 6 Cyl would be stiff as hell, and 6cyl springs on a bb would be spongy... Using the right springs for the engine is recommended, if you want a drop you springs designed for that engine and desired drop.. Ie.. BB springs W/2inch drop... EarlyClassic can setup you up with just about any stance you want.. and do it right so you get good handling..

I got a question along the same lines, can I put a 3/4 ton front spring up front on my 71 1/2 ton. I'd think it would work like stllookn said. The guy at the parts store didn't think the springs would fit between the a arms on a 1/2 ton. But the parts are the same on 1/2 -3/4 ton right? or am I wrong.

stllookn,

The springs should be interchangeble. The only difference is the BB and SB versions. If you plan on putting a BB in a 1/2 ton I would opt for the BB springs. The front end will be stiffer and sit higher until the BB is installed.

Thanks guys, that is what I thought. I just need a cheap fix for the leaning truck at the moment...will do the 3" spindles later to lower it right and will have good springs to boot.

This might sound stupid but I just need some clarification. As I understand it heavy duty 1/2 ton springs are BB springs for trucks so equipped with a BB? 3/4 ton springs are the same height but stiffer for the punishment that a 3/4 ton would see. So my real question is that will heavy duty half ton springs give me a lift up front since I only have a small block or will it be stock height? Just wondering I'd like about an inch or two of lift on my half ton 2wd. Thanks in advance.

1/2 ton BB springs will lift it almost 2 inches but your going to be a bit stiff. 3/4 SB and BB srings are the same as 1/2 BB springs. Then they have a BB HD spring too but you don't want that. I've gone with the BB 1/2 ton springs and there going in as soon as I get the rest of the front end gathered up. If it's too stiff I'll make a 100lb skidd plate that should just about load the spring without any drop.

Thanks slamm33 for the info. I've got the HD 1/2 ton spings that i'm gonna install. It's just the time and patience that I need. I've got new balljoints too but just working on the rear suspension for now. I just was looking for an idea of how it would stand when done. I'm looking for a stiffer ride anyway.
