Re: Replaced my heater core! Lots of fun! Pictures!!! ;)
I'm definitely bringing an old thread back from the dead here, but with the weather getting colder, I think some of us could be in the middle of needing to do this job. This is a great tutorial.

Re: Replaced my heater core! Lots of fun! Pictures!!! ;)
Awesome write up! I need to tackle this job soon and now I feel much better about diggin in knowing what Im in for. Question. Can I just drill an access hole in the inner fender to get to that nasty bolt? Or are there other reasons for loosening the fender?

Re: Replaced my heater core! Lots of fun! Pictures!!! ;)
My first post. U guys are great!!!
Hi Jewels, UR my hero! Your pix and explanation of how to change out a leaky heater core were VERY informative. The heater/cooler unit in my 1972 GMC 2500 Sierra 4x4 looks a lot different from most of the pix and diagrams I've seen. The build plate on glovebox door says Four Seasons A/C, but the box has a name on it that aint GM. I'm guessing the previous (and ONLY) other owner might have had an after market system installed to replace original?? Anyway, someone here said the removal is easier if equipped w/air. How so? My truck's just back from fresh paint, and I hate the idea of tearing the whole front end apart. Any ideas for an old scardy cat? Thanks a bunch for any help. |

Re: Replaced my heater core! Lots of fun! Pictures!!! ;)
I've had my heater core up on the shelf for 2 years, figured it was just gonna die sooner or later. I figured I'd change it, now that I'm doing other things... never figured it was the right time, just because my fender/hood is off. Tell you what, changing the valve cover gaskets, manifolds and gaskets are SO much easier when you can sit on the tire and work on the engine!
Now IS the time to do this job!

Heater core on an AC cab is inside the cab. Never taken one apart on the inside so not sure if it's neseceraly easier. The outer box probably says Harrison on it . It's the make of factory parts like the radiator also.

Thanks, Blue! That's me, then. I'll take it slow, figure it out.
