1966 Deluxe Wheel Horn Color
It seems I can see some remnants of black in the circular recesses of my horn cap along with the same in the emblem crest. I haven't been able to find any clear close ups to verify this.
I also saw a pic of one that had the vertical bars in the crest painted red and blue. Not sure if that is correct but looked nice. Can anybody point me in the right direction on this? Thanks! |

Re: 1966 Deluxe Wheel Horn Color
Here is my wheel I restored. I believe it is black and shined it out so the chrome fins shows through.

Re: 1966 Deluxe Wheel Horn Color
Ya my son is a artist and I had him put that in there. It looks so cool! Not sure if it came that way but the rest I believe is correct. The other steering wheel posted in a very nice wheel but not a original 66 C10 Deluxe wheel. Looks like a Impala or a Chevelle wheel which do to me look almost the same really and have seen them on other trucks that look really nice as well.

I believe it is a Chevy II wheel that vin63 posted. They had the rings on the wheel rim and used the same horn ring. Good looking wheel. |

Re: 1966 Deluxe Wheel Horn Color
The 1966 Chevy II was offered with two types of steering wheels according to the package option - including the one that my dad purchased new. The Super Sports came with the accented steering wheel - the same horn ring and cap was used for the deluxe option on the 1966 C10:
Original 1966 Chevy II Super Sport:

Re: 1966 Deluxe Wheel Horn Color
Evidently the Chevy II/Impala wheel came in red also.

Re: 1966 Deluxe Wheel Horn Color
This steering wheel , YES its 1966 Nova , but 1966 NOVA or Chevy II ONLY ! Notice the gap where the column meets the base of the steering wheel , GM DID NOT DO THIS. Clearly this truck was modified and wheel was added.
Quote:
This red steering wheel is from a 1962-1965 Chevy II only. Impalas did use the 4 chrome accent rings but had their own unique steering wheels. In addition , the GM Part number for the 1966 Chevy truck Custom, only, horn ring is 768293 which is also listed as 1962-1965 Chevy II. The 1966 Chevy II Nova horn ring in VINs picture is 3873652. Horn button ,1962-1965 Chevy II and 1966 Custom truck only part # is 3858192 . For 1966 Chevy II horn button is 3873627 and 3873655 for the cap like on VINs steering wheel for SS Nova.

Re: 1966 Deluxe Wheel Horn Color
For reference , Heres an NOS 1966 "truck" Steering wheel pt# 3889992 . NOS horn ring PT# 768293 and Horn button 3858192 . To answer the original post. Black background , the two center vertical bars are , tan or a goldish color , not red and blue.

Re: 1966 Deluxe Wheel Horn Color
Excellent pics, 60-66!! Exactly what I need to paint my cap.
Wish the bars were red and blue. Guess that was too much splash for the 60's! |

Re: 1966 Deluxe Wheel Horn Color
Ya I painted it red and blue because I thought it looked better... my truck is very stock looking.... gold looks good too but I liked what you said the splash is pretty cool I think!! Adds color! Have fun with it that is what these trucks are for!

Re: 1966 Deluxe Wheel Horn Color
I would agree with you both on the color . A little red white and blue like they did on some of the other steering wheels would look nice. My response was because the original post was about restoration . Im a stickler for details in that situation and which parts are correct. But I to like changing things up a bit. This is my 1966 Suburban , I added the simulated wood wheel that was used on 1964-1965-1966 Chevrolet cars and a 1965 style horn button . Interestingly , for these wood wheels , the wheel was the same but each year had a different style button. The color is why I chose the 65 button.

Re: 1966 Deluxe Wheel Horn Color
Agree on both accounts! My truck will be factory looking with a few mods anyway so I think red and blue it will be!
