Re: Bad day for the truck engine

If you are going to build, look at the vortec heads. They are much better than old double hump heads. Bone stock they will out flow the double humps. Do some research, all the data is there to prove the value. You can buy the heads brand new for about $350 per head ready to bolt on to a short block.

Re: Bad day for the truck engine

I got my deal through Radley, kicker was a $100 VISA gift card with an engine purchase. Made the "net" $1329. I will use the gift card for gaskets, fuel pump, etc. Early Christmas gift to...me! No secrets or funny business here.

Re: Bad day for the truck engine

Thought I would update this old thread with what I wound up doing. The engine actually had a busted piston in one of the cylinders along with the blown head gasket at another location so the head gasket probably saved me from taking out the block.

The block was bored 30 over and line bored for a new crank. We went with a new Scat cranck, 298 comp cam, flat top aluminum pistons, roller tip rockers and the 202 heads that I got from my friend. It's gonna be a while before we get to fire it off since I decided to do some painting while it was down but the engine is ready to go. I wound up with right at $2000 just in parts since we put everything new in it but it should be stout and a fun little rubber burner.
