New Old Guy

I'm new to this forum, haven't had one of these trucks for about 20 years, saw this one on craigslist last night and went and bought it this morning. I usually have one old car around but had sold my last one in October and never found what I was looking for so I thought this would be fun while I keep looking. It's a 1966. Shows 63K so I would assume 163K, decent looking older repaint with some lower front drivers fender rust bubbling back through and a little by the rear passenger wheel well. Decent inside, V8 3 speed. It runs ok, drives like a truck, probably needs a lot of little things and I hope no big ones. I'm 70 so I've got some miles on me too. I know everybody likes pictures so here it is.

Re: New Old Guy

Beautiful truck, Welcome aboard. Looks like a survivor to me, interior pretty close to original, maybe some chalk marks under the hood. When you take it in for service Lube up the front end, should be around 19 grease fittings up front. Might turn a little better.

Re: New Old Guy

Welcome, and good looking truck! Replacement seat upholstery and orange motor (originally grey) means you're probably right on the 163K, though still a handsome example.

Re: New Old Guy

Thanks for the kind welcome. The previous owner had owned the truck since 1993 and i got the repair records since then. It also has the original owners manual and protecto plate. When I bought it this morning it had a tool box which I removed upon arrival home, it looks a lot better without it. I think the old truck is gonna be a lot of fun.

Re: New Old Guy

I didn't know there was an age limit to enjoying old trucks? Looks like a great truck. Can you define why you don't like the way it drives?

Re: New Old Guy

Didn't say don't like how it drives, it is an old truck and drives like one that needs a little attention. Steering is loose, got some driveline slack, shifter linkage could stand some grease and a little adjustment, just usual stuff that something old that doesn't get a lot of use needs. I think the old guy that owned it before me did a great job fixing it up in 93 when he got it. He took good care of it and fixed stuff as it needed it along the way but in the end when it didn't get much use it was neglected a little. I pretty much just like it the way it is with just a little tinkering and clean up.

Re: New Old Guy

I like it ! Nice truck and welcome to the forums. Looks like a 70's or 80's era small block judging by the bolt holes in the heads, PCV valve covers, alternator bracket and air cleaner.

Welcome to the forum Irvan

Nice truck you bought. Aside from the little things you mentioned, it looks like it will be a nice driver.
