Step side running board bracket - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

On my 63 C10 step side I recently purchased, the seller put in 2x6 wood bed. In doing this he raised the bed up 1 inch to accommodate for the thicker pieces of wood. Now there is a 1 inch gap between the running board and the bracket. My question is what would be the best way to correct this? Should I shorten the bracket, put in a spacer, not really sure how to move forward with this and any input would be greatly appreciated.

myself i would put a 1" spacer

I would also replace the wood.

People today are bigger and weigh more than in the 1960s. IMO, these brackets are not designed for someone who might weigh 240lbs. Last thing you need is seeing the step bracket fail when someone steps on it. They will look at you like it's not their fault and now you have a big problem.
The above suggestions are good but I'd also add another bracket just to prevent damage from "uncle Bob" who weighs too much. My 2 cents.

I would cut a piece of Oak & make a spacer & be done with it.

Thank you for your suggestions, I will see what all I need to do in order to lower the bed back down and how much a new wood bed would cost. I didn't even think about using a second brace... something to think about
