Question for all the differential Guru's.....
Hello everyone! Some of you may recall the 12 bolt differential I bought for my '71. It came out of a '64 C 10. The positraction unit is a rare bird, seems it was made by Dana, and it was only used in '64-'65, same differential as the Corvette, I know where it get the clutches/steels, but the problem with this diff. Is that it has 17 spline axles. Other than setting it up after replacing the bearings and seals, it's been pretty tight, I did however have the dreaded "ratcheting" noise associated with running without the posi additive ( I used the gear oil that supposedly had that blended in) got a bottle at the local GM dealer for $14 and no more noise.
Now, onto my question: I found another 12 bolt posi from a 65' C10 that is similar to the one I have out of the 64' but, this one has 30 spline axles. Does anyone know if the Eaton spider gears will interchange with the Dana ones? The reason I ask is, one of the side gears(splined ones) has the teeth damaged and needs replaced, I haven't tried to disassemble it yet, basically I can't find any documentation showing how it comes apart, it appears to require removal like an Eaton, but I'm not sure. I'd like to save this unit, but if I can't find the parts, might look to put it on EBay. Anyone, anyone...... Thanks and have a great day! Here are a few pics:

Re: Question for all the differential Guru's.....
Well, I got this carrier apart, turns out the clutches
were toast. I believe I have found a set of replacement spider gears, and I found a set of clutches as well, if I can confirm this spider gear set part number, I'll be in business. If not, I'll put the parts on eBay or Craigslist I'm sure somebody is looking for a part to fix their diff, since no one makes these parts anymore. I'll post some pictures later if the "Carnage" Have a great Day! Ben
