3 on the tree

Would I be better off going with a manual trans behind my LS swap or going to an automatic? The truck is now a 3 speed on the tree..

That is an open ended question. What do you prefer? What's the truck gonna be used for? Going to an automatic would be easier with an LS swap in my opinion, but it's all user preference. My truck, I went automatic, my Vette is a manual. The truck I just like to jump in and drive. I don't wanna worry about sitting in traffic, holding a clutch in.Do what makes YOU happy.

I was just wondering if I would have swap in a auto steering column or if I stuck with a T56 or something like that I would be fine with the clutch linkage.

You'd be better off with an 8L90E, but you have to draw the line somewhere. It's really about what you want.

If it were me and I was putting an LS motor in it I'd also want a reasonably modern automatic transmission behind it. But it really depends on what YOU want.

Not sure but i think all of the late model manual trans jobs get a hydraulic clutch system installed so you wouldn't need your stock bellcrank rod linkage.

Would I have to swap an auto steering column in if I went auto?

Yes, you need an auto column because of the auto shift quadrant built into it and it's the safe way! If the budget can swing a tilt column DON'T buy the aftermarket cheap columns that have poor quality parts inside made overseas (this is a safety related item)! I believe flaming river has a gm duplicate and are made in the usa! Also i believe Wes at classic heartbeat (i think) rebuilds gm take out columns that have had fantastic reviews and shipped and packaged first rate. Both are excellent choices. Good luck!

Re: 3 on the tree

If you used a floor shifter as opposed to the column you wouldn't need to switch steering columns

Re: 3 on the tree

Auto options
1. Change to auto column and connect lever to trans.
2. Leave 3ott column and install floor shifter

Manual options
1. Use t56 and convert to hydraulic slave. Member on here sells kit with pedal linkage and master
2. Use old style trans with manual throwout. I believe have to convert either flywheel and bellhousing

Each option comes with its own hurdles and costs. Just depends on which way you want to go
