I need to order new upholstery for my 68 C10. i have heard there is foam and spring differences and that makes a difference on what will fit. I would like to use a hounds tooth pattern from newer model but not sure it will fit. I also have a 1970 and I looked at the seat it in and cannot tell any difference between the two. Any help identifying it or what to look for would be great. Upholstery is generally not returnable, so I want to get something that fits.

I have also heard there is a difference in the seat tracks, could someone explain this also ? Thanks.

Out on a limb here but I will tell you what I think I know, so please take it for what it is worth. On 67 and 68 trucks all the bench seats are basically the same no matter what trim package you ordered. The foam was all the same the springs were the same and the only differences were in the covers. However, the bench seat out of a 71 - 72 Cheyenne super with the houndstooth, has thicker foam for sure and possibly different springs. I swapped a super seat into my 67 and it was a direct bolt in but a world of difference, so much more comfortable. The differences in the seat tracks may be in the design, but not any differences in the bolt patterns. My.02

also, on some of the seats, the back flips forward and on others , it doesn't. I have a 72 and I also had a 72 parts truck. The seat in the parts truck doesn't flip forward but the original seat from mine, does.

What is the point of that, when the gas tank is there anyway. I have one of each.

Actually there were 2 styles of seats. The full foam variety and the other pain in the butt style with little to no padding. My 67 plain jane truck has the cheap-o seat and boy does it sit bad. With that said I can't say that I have ever noticed anything that would make the seat cover not work on either frame.

Were the "cheap seats" only available 67-68, but a better one put in some trucks? My 68 is a Custom, and my 1970 is pretty plain jane, I cant tell the difference if any. What is strange to me is that my dad bought that truck in 1972, and it had cloth inserts in the seats as long as I can remember. I do remember he had it fixed once to repair a torn seam, and I think they replaced the center section of vinyl, but I don't think anything waas changed. I had it recovered about 10 years ago and put in some fabic inserts similar to what was on there, but that was before I knew about "houndstooth", which I'll bet that was what it was, so I don't have the original now. Places I've contacted say there was no cloth inserts available in 68 and only vinyl seats were used. I know this truck has always had some kind of fabric inserts, but I also know that it did NOT have any type of scroll in the vinyl. I think it would be unlikely that the entire seat was recovered or replaced when the truck was only 4 years old when we acquired it. Truck has red/orange exterior with white top and red interior with red vinyl. Any clues or am I losing my brain ?

Take a look at the catalog listings...these are for the deluxe thick foam only!
69-70 covers for 69-70 seats...
71-2 covers for 71-2 seats...
Nothing for 67-8...
You can't mix these up, because the seat frames are actually different and the covers are cut differently. The different slides were to match the delux or cheap model seats. Again, you can't mix them up.

Now, sometimes you can pay extra and get Houndstooth covers cut to fit the 69-79 (Remember they only came in 71-2 "Supers" or "Sierra Grandes").

Be real careful or you are going to have some seat covers for sale cheap that don't fit your truck.

Suggestion: Go get a 71-2 deluxe seat with thick foam and order the covers to fit it. I always suscribe to the "KISS" principle---keep it simple slick.

Note: Just for info...67-8 seats were designed to pivot forward, 69-72 with the two bolt sides were not.

Well, my 68 has the wingnut on the side where you could lossen it and tip seat ahead if wanted. My 70 has a solid cuved piece on the side covered with vinyl, if that helps any. Thanks.

I've got a seat from a 68 that does fold and it has been covered once before over what appears the original. its scroll pattern in green(the original) any idea if this would be the correct pattern for a 68.

I found a great seat frame in a junk yard truck. It still has the factory metal tags dated 1971. I received a free hand-me-down vinyl cover off of a 70 seat frame. It's about 4-5 inches too small. If in were to compress the springs somehow and get the vinyl to streach, thwre would be no give or spring to the seat.

My findings are that 71-72 seat frames are slightly different than previous years and the depends can be full depth foam or not.

Ordering a new seat cover soon for full depth foam for a 72. Hope it's the correct size without too much heating and stretching needed.
