Sorry I misread your question. As forestb suggested, I would use heim joints at each end with all thread rod connecting something light but #10-32 internally thread heim ends is about the smallest I've found. MCmaster-Carr lists them as Ball Joint Rod ends. Here's some from McMaster-Carr
