I have a 71 Jimmy anyone know what kind and weight of oil
goes in the Rearends. I don't think they are posi. No tags or anything. Front is a 10 bolt back is a 12 bolt ? What kind of oil goes in the Transfer case ? I looked in the Haines Manual and it didnt' say. Thanks Charlie

If you don't have posi then plain old 80-90W will do you fine. I use valvoline. As far as the transfer goes and somebody please correct me if I"m wrong but straight 10w should be fine.

What happens if you put the posi aditive and its not posi?
Would it hurt anything. This Jimmy is new to me and I haven't driven it much yet so don't really know if its posi or not. I know on the cars they usually have a tag on the rearend if it is posi. These do not. Thanks Charlie

If you are using valvoline then use the 75/90 with a GL-5 rating in BOTH the rear and T-case, that way if there is a posi in the rear it is rated for it, if no posi---well it won't matter.

if you have the cash, fill them with synthetic, you'll probably never need to chainge it again if you do so. (acording to our indipendedn oil lab at work)

Good point, if it gets contaminated, it'll need imidiate attention, regardless of your lube of choice.
