Re: One mixed up 51'
A day of victory!!
I finally had the time to go pull the motor mounts I needed. As soon as I got home I cleaned them up and put them in. And of course I can't stop there. Holy crap I actually got the motor in after like 2 years. Very excited, hopefully tomorrow I will get a new long saws all blade and start getting that cab in place. I still need a flex plate and torque converter, but I also need to replace the rear main seal too. So the motor will for sure be out and in again a few times. Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: One mixed up 51'
Yea body drop indeed. I'm going to remove the tank and use another I have to relocate to the back. Then probably just notch the back of the cab around the frame to get it to sit the 1.5" off the frame I planned. It's about 5" at the lowest point right now.

Re: One mixed up 51'
Well I got the cab marked out and on the ground. Realized that I should do a little reinforcement on the floor before I start cutting.
The toe board and floor have a gap starting. Figured I'll get some new 20 gage steel and patch that up first along with the holes. Looks like I got some wire wheeling in my future as well Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: One mixed up 51'
Trimmed out the fire wall and some of the floor for around the drive shaft. Only had to trim a bit more after test fitting. I'm pretty happy with the height on the frame for now. I'm thinking of using the old body mounts and modding them with the urithane body mounts I had gotten for the s10. Should just need some notching and a little plate to make work.
I've also come up with my plan for the exhaust. It's going to be something like this pic. But it will come out of the side of the hood on top of the fender. Going to put that together pre turbo, then I'll just cut in the turbo when it's time Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: One mixed up 51'
Lookin good!! Ya I just used s10 urethane bushings front and back on mine. I used factory front holes and drilled a hole in rear cab support. Works great.
Watch having the exhaust coming out in front of the cab most places it is not legal. Has to exit behind the passenger compartment.

Re: One mixed up 51'
Thanks, I've done some reading after you pointed out that my exhaust plan might not fly. So far I've not found anything saying I can't pipe it out there. Just no cut outs. Some people keep saying it has to come out after the passenger compartment but nothing on the motor vehicle act says that.
I'll have to make sure and ask a few cops maybe. Thanks again for pointing that out Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: One mixed up 51'
I just did some searching and found nothing that said it has to exit behind. I have had dual side pipes on my Jeep for 15 years and have never had a problem. I think where you might get in trouble is the out of hood exit. Just a suggestion, exit bottom rear of front fender. Just don't make it loud.
Like this only on passenger side.

Re: One mixed up 51'
I really appreciate the input. If I do the side exit I want something original, I've seen the exit out that part of the fender before. But after you brought up if it will cause me legal issues I started to think of other things like my wife to be rolling her window down with the dogs out that window on a day drive to a car show somewhere and never hearing the end of it about how she gets all the exhaust fumes and it's soooo loud if I open the window...
I still might do it but I should probably think about that and go with the single exit between the cab and rear fender in the bed side. Maybe plum the waste gate piping to what I want when it gets a turbo? Posted via Mobile Device |

I have three sets of 5.3 truck manifolds if you need extras!

Re: One mixed up 51'
Yes, seen a few people cut the top off and meld a 3" pipe as a collector. Once my body is all the way on I'll source a stock Y pipe to mod as a cross over under the trans.
The manifolds are cast steel so they will weld just fine. Posted via Mobile Device |
