1966 C-10 Rust in Engine Compartment?
Hey all -
Trying to see if any aftermarket companies offer the panels on either side of the engine bay that the front fenders mount to and hold the hood springs. I have rust issues on both sides where they meet the front panel the radiator mounts to. Hoping to avoid cutting and welding if possible. Thanks! |

I think a few companies offer them, though they may all be made at the same factory. The part is the inner fender if I understand your post correctly. A lot of that rust looks superficial though. Hard to tell on my phone, but they could be worth fixing. |

Don't throw away your original inner fenders until after you fit up the new aftermarket inner fenders. You may decide to put your rusted originals back in.

Listen to Captain. Having replaced my originals with the aftermarket I can tell you that they will work. It is a pain getting them to work. If you have any fab skills I would consider trying to patch them first. You will most likely need fab skills to make the new ones work anyhow. I say that because i tossed mine thinking i had brand new ones why keep the old ones? Right! In the end I don't think I saved my self any time. I had to cut off the lower the brace's where they attach to the rad support and re attach them. Round out like every hole. Shave and trim to get the column piece back in. Then I had to modify my hinges to get my hood to close. Still doesn't close all that great either. Also had lots of screwing around to get the inner and outter fenders bolted back together along the top. I wish I'd have kept the old ones and just fixed them. Good luck with which ever way you decide to go.

Wait till one of the Pomona swap meets and try and find an original set. You are in a good spot for finding stuff with no rust. Also look on craigslist. The antelope valley section seems to be good for truck parts if you are take your time.

Just saw this on craigslist, not mine. Wish we had parts like that up here on the northern side of the border.

Re: 1966 C-10 Rust in Engine Compartment?
Just like Vince stated earlier...KEEP YOUR ORIGINAL PARTS.
Aftermarket parts WILL have to be massaged to make them fit correctly no matter who makes them, they will not simply bolt up. I bought inner and outer front fenders, and a new bed "Thinking" I was doing good and gonna save time and money...Not hardly. After market stuff is not the same as the original, the steel is not as thick... In the end it ended up costing me way more time and money than if I had just fixed the original parts. Just my opinion but PLEASE keep your original parts. If they are too badly damaged find a company( Junk Yard) that sells oem part albeit used stuff but sometimes used stuff is way better than NEW stuff. There is a member on here that sells oem parts...he is from Arab Alabama....Ill see if I can find his name for you. John |
