No post on font of starter for the brace?

Any ideas what I should do if my starter doesn't have a post sticking out of the front so I can mount a brace? It' just a bolt going into the starter instead of a post coming out. Its the same on both sides.

I agree with Firedemon, use some threaded rod and a few nuts. You can carefully remove the bolt on the starter and match up it's length (and add a little extra) so the post will protrude just enough to mount 2 nuts and the brace.

1. remove bolt on starter where brace would mount
2. replace with threaded rod and add a nut to secure the starter (where head of removed bolt would be)
3. starter brace plus another nut get's secured to remaining threads on threaded rod.

Another option is to go with a later model GM mini starter, they are just as powerful (if not more) than the old style large starter and do not require the brace. There are other advantages, quieter, lighter, less prone to heat soak.
Hope this is helpful, let us know how you get along.

I have some extra starter bolts with the stud built in. I could send you one if you want.

x2, I don't run the braces, not saying I shouldn't just don't have them to install,my trucks never had them as long as I have owned them, one for 30 years now

X-2 on the mini starter.
Less draw, faster starts and cheap too.
