Red face 1984 C10 4 pin brake switch question

A few questions:

What is the purpose of the 4 pin brake switch in my truck that does not have cruise control.

I have a 4l80e installed, can I reuse the 4 pin switch to lock up my torque converter.

Re: 1984 C10 4 pin brake switch question

'84 would have had a lock up torque converter (provided it had an automatic transmission).

One set of contacts will be Normally Open and the other Normally Closed.

David, thank you. I did not know the TH350 came with lock up capability.

Re: 1984 C10 4 pin brake switch question

It doesn't, but the 700r4 did. My guess is they had run a single part # for the brake switch and just didn't wire it if it wasn't needed in that configuration. My guess is the manual trucks have the same brake switch. Yes you can reuse it, just make sure that its normally open/closed configuration matches what the 80e wants, otherwise you'll be trying to lock/unlock at the wrong command.

They made 350 turbos with lock up converters in the 80"s.

It could also be for the cruise control system if it had that option.

BR3, how will I know for certain whether it is in sync with my needs or not?

Do different model 4l80e's have varying requirements from their switches?

I hav a copy of HPtuners and the box, can I use that to determine whether or not the TC is locking up and unlocking when the brake is depressed?

Re: 1984 C10 4 pin brake switch question

4l80e needs 0v on the switch when the brakes are applied. Some switches work the opposite. Just throw a meter on it. If you have the wrong one, I have the correct part listed in my build (pic and part #), a few pages in.
