Seat belt buckle cover

Can anyone tell me a SAFE way to remove the plastic seat belt buckle cover? It is the square kind with the GM square push button. I am changing the color of my seat belts and am painting the covers to match.
THANKS!!!!!

I use two xacto knives with flat cutoff blades in them to slide by the two tabs that hold the cover on. It is not easy but it does work. A very thin strong blade is needed to release the tabs.

To add to jim's post, do it when they are warm...hot would be even better. The colder they are, the more brittle they are.
