67/68 GMC Tailgate Original Blue

I have seen posts lately asking for tailgates so I will list mine. I have only one but it is very straight, non-rusty original shape. I bought it from a guy who found it in a barn. I paid alot for it but here in upstate NY you don't see too many decent parts so I bought it in hopes that I could pass it on to someone who could use it just as it is (and not paint it another color), but if you want to paint it that is OK too. I was hoping to find a truck to go with it. I really don't know how to ship something this big and heavy. (I have not even weighed it).Hoping to get $550 for it. SOLD

I'm tempted to buy a blue truck just for an excuse to buy that!

I think just like you! I guess we have the disease? Maybe I should place an ad titled :"WTB 67/68 Blue GMC truck with tailgate missing".

I suppose you could make it into a Chevy if you wanted to cover up the GMC with a Cheyenne/CST type "CHEVROLET" trim band. But I am guessing the blue color might be unique? Maybe someone could tell us if when and where this blue was used (other than 67/68 GMC). Thanks for your interest and sense of humor!

Looks like you got a good start. I wish I still had every truck I ever owned. Keep that in mind if you ever think you need to sell something.

Re: 67/68 GMC Tailgate Original Blue

Looks like it's painted the later dark blue over original light blue. A real nice tailgate to use on a truck.

Hello Special K. I don't mean to get in a disagreement with you but this has only one coat of paint on it. I know the pictures could be clearer but if you look at the GMC lettering you can see how this is as original as it can be. And no sign of any other paint on the ends of the tailgate around the hinges or anywhere. What can you tell me about this color? Is this just a GMC color?Or did Chevy use this color too? I have owned both light blue and dark blue but they were all Chevys. Did Chevy and GMC use the same dark blue? I know my memory is not what it used to be but this dark blue looks darker than my old Chevy dark blue was. Thanks, george.

Thanks Special K. The lighter color on the tailgate (surrounding the letters) is actually silver. I have been reading that this is supposed to be the same silver that was used on the wheels.
