Talking

Grounding the sending unit wire, (brown wire that runs from the tank to the fuse panel) should make the gauge read empty. With the wire ungrounded it should read way past full. If that is the case, then either the tank sending unit is not grounded or the sending unit is bad.

The sending unit sends an ohm signal to the gauge between 0 ohms, (empty) and 90 ohms, (full).

Fuel guage question

Mine is doing exactly the same thing. I'll check mine tomorrow and report the results. Thanks for the post.

now wait a minute.....

my fuel gage needle was off after i took my gage cluster apart, and cleaned the parts.... apparently i bumped the needle out of position, and since then, the needle has already read a little high..... it doesnt ALWAYS mean the grounding is wrong.... it could be the needle is just off....

just somethin to consider, guys!

Actually jewels, I'll bet you put it together wrong. My experiance with fuel guages is you can place the needle anywhere you want it as long as you don't spin it 360 degrees, it'll still work and be acurate. I wonder if you installed the resistor backwards or upside down. (I've done it many times)

hmmm... i dont remember messin with a resistor.... all i remember is unscrewing things to get at the faceplate of the guage, and then cleanin it, and then screwin it back into place.... do you think i messed up a resistor? where is this resistor at? you totally have me curious now....

got any pics to lead me in the right direction? want me to take some pics tomorrow?

no no --- i think the only thing i unbolted were the screws behind each guage that hold it in place... if i remember right..... i also unbolted the entire guage unit from the dash.... but i dont think i touched any resistors, did i?
