I am sorry to hear that. you are right that the feeling there is "being technically correct is the best kind of correct" but as long as you have some fairly thick skin for being corrected I have found it a useful resource, at least the positives for me outweigh the fiddly negatives.
I have seen in person three different front fender types. 1/2 3/4, the 1 - 1.5 and up, the ones you describe that my friend called a GMC 1 1/4 ton. I have even seen them for sale on the stovebolt classifieds so I am surprised they argued that point.
