49 Chevy 3100 Project

I've been lingering for a while and decided I better put up a few pictures of my new project. This was my Uncle's 49 chevy 3100 who just recently passed away, wasn't sure what was going to happen to it but I was able to purchase it. I'm still trying to get more information but I believe he purchased this truck back in the early 80's and had big plans for it... Sadly I don't think he ever got a chance to really work on it though and other than a few small things and some dreams I believe it pretty much looked like this when he bought it. He always talked about getting it on the road and held onto it everytime he moved.
So my plan is to get it back on the road by March 2017, so I can give my 92 year old Grandma a ride in it. Her birthday is in January and I would really like to have it looking like something by then and then road worthy by spring. It's not going to be anything fancy. I'm not going to paint it, probably try to get some of the faded maroon paint (almost pink now) off to show some of the original green paint hiding underneath. And I will probably do some sort of door logo tribute for my Uncle. It is getting all new front and rear suspension and an LS1/4l60E. Picked up a MII setup for the front and have a 8.8 exploder rearend.
Enough BS onto some pictures.

Re: 49 Chevy 3100 Project

I started a couple of weeks ago, the owner previous to my uncle had put a mustang front suspension under it, however it was not center in the fender so I decided it wasn't worth trying to make work and I knew I wouldn't be happy leaving it...so out that came.
He had also modified the dash for some sort of factory gauge cluster. I've been hunting for a dash for a few months and really haven't found anything cheap enough so I've kind of made up my mind to just fix this one. I'm also hopeful I can find a Fulton Visor for it too, but I'm also realistic and that probably won't happen...maybe someday.

I have the new MII suspension tacked in and I also have by 8.8 narrowed up and started putting the 4-Link in for that. I'll try to update this as much as I can, but I'm terrible at taking pictures.

Re: 49 Chevy 3100 Project

Thanks!

Attached are a few more pics. First pic is of the old front suspension and in the second pic start cutting it out.

3rd picture is the new ride height and I'm getting the truck leveled up to install the front IFS and rearend.
Got my new 20x12 wheels so I had to see what they looked like and get my rearend width measurement so I could narrow my 8.8.

Last picture is currently where I'm at on the project, putting the new 4-link in. Hope to finish it friday night and move back up front and finish the front suspension (its just tacked in and I need to notch the frame and finish welding it all)

Nice truck. All the metal looks pretty straight without a lot of rust. The black wheel is a good look, is that what you will use?

Re: 49 Chevy 3100 Project

Thanks. It is in pretty good shape, hardly any rust and no major dents.
Those are the wheels I will be running. Cheapest 20x12 and 20x9 I could find with a ford bolt pattern. Hopefully I can make the 20x9's fit on the front??? I wanted something a little narrower up front but couldnt find anything that fit the budget but these.

Re: 49 Chevy 3100 Project

Been a while, I'm terrible at staying up to date on here. I'm still plugging away, well except for the last couple of weeks. Some ass hats decided to break into my shop and steal a bunch of tools. So been busy making security improvements. Hoping to get back on the truck this weekend. Plan to prime and paint the interior. Nothing to fancy just flat black. Here are a few pics. Got rid of a lot of the purple/red.

Re: 49 Chevy 3100 Project

Making progress. Made the maiden voyage in the truck this weekend, figured if your going to drive it for a 1 mile test drive you might as well drive it 100 miles. So I jumped in it Sunday and drove it down to give my Grandma a ride. Truck drove great. Still a lot of little things to finish as you can see in the pictures, plus I still need to do some tuning. I have 3 weeks to get it a little more complete and I plan to make a 600+ mile round trip in it.
