Gas tank leak/Dropping tank on a '90 Burb???
On my ’90 Burb, I have a pretty bad gas tank leak when that it’s full. It stops as soon as the level in the tank starts to come off of full. I suspect that the rubber hose(?) from the fill neck to the top of the gas tank is bad or not connected correctly. The connection at the filler neck looks OK so I think the problem is at the tank end.
How hard is it to drop the gas tank in a 90 Burb? Is there any way to reach the top tank/hose connection without dropping the tank down? Thanks, Tom

Well, it would help to have the tank fairly empty if you have the 40-gal. tank like mine! Are you sure it's the filler neck leaking and not the tank itself? My first car, a 1981 Dodge Mirada, had the tank rust out on me. Anything over 3/4 full would leave a trail of gas behind me...
That, a leaking exhaust manifold, and rust eventually made me sell it and buy my Chevy. I still have the Chevy more than ten years later!

The filler is at the VERY top of the tank. You would have to over fill it for it to leak there. I would definitely agree to draining as much as you can beforehand. It would make handling it easier. I just dropped the 28g tank out of my Jimmy.

Are you quite sure it stops, rather than just slowing down? I had to replace both tanks on my 87 pickup due to rust-out a few years ago, which would put your '90 about on schedule for needing a new tank now, IME.
Empty is good when handling tanks. Beware of the possible need for new mounting hardware, as that may also have rusted out.

The gas only drips just after a total fill and stops when the needle starts to come off the max. I hope it's just the filler hose and not the tank itself. It drips off the bottom of the tank but I think it's running somehow off the top of the tank down the rear of the tank. It seems to come to a complete stop after the level comes down.
Thanks again all. I'll run 'er down to "E" and see If she'll drop down. Perhaps I'll tackle it this weekend or next weekend.
