1969 C10 Bell Housing

I'm in the middle of converting my straight 6 / 4 speed manual on floor to a small block v8 and trying to keep the manual transmission. The guy that is doing the work is telling me I need new bell housing. I'm not an engine expert but just wanted to confirm this is correct. Apparently there aren't any after-market parts available and the only option is to buy a custom bell housing for $700.

Your guy is wrong. The existing bellhousing works on both small blocks and inline 6 engines. As well as big blocks and V6's for that matter.

He's saying because it has a Saginaw 4 speed on floor it doesn't match up?

Please, go down to his shop. Take the bellhousing and hold it up against the back of your engine. All six bolt holes and both dowel holes will line up. Ask him what the problem is.

Heck, as long as your six wasn't a 292 and the small block has a two piece rear main, you can even reuse the existing flywheel and bolts and clutch and starter.

I'm not just an internet cowboy here. I've done this swap plenty of times. I've actually done this swap this month !

This is the joy of building chevrolet products, they are very compatible from one block to another. He is very correct on all the info he stated, I also have converted many from straight six to v-8 with no problems.
