Clutch replacement 62' C20

What would be the easiest or best way to replace the flywheel and clutch on 62' c20 with 4 speed manual transmission I have heard that I could replace the transmission bolts with longer ones to back the transmission off the bell housing but I don't believe that will work with the shifter coming threw the floor and no room for it to move back I really don't have a way to pull the motor at this point and was really hoping to b able to do it without Unbolting the motor for the bell housing any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

you don't have to unbolt the bellhousing from the engine. remove the trans and the clutch and p/plate will come out the bottom. remove the shifter and use a trans jack to drop the trans out the bottom. you will either have to use a hoist or put the truck up on stands to do it

What they said above. My only caution is that, that 4 speed is one of the heaviest transmissions I've ever "bench pressed" in and out of a vehicle next to a 4l80e and maybe a T-56. Have a safety in place.

as I said if you use a transmission jack you shouldn't have a problem. they are mainly for a/trans. one can rent them from tool rental places

Remove the shifter by twisting the retaining collar CCW. Then remove the trans hump floor section. Then use a transmission jack to move the trans back and down out of the way. Having the truck up on 4 jackstands makes this a little easier.. While you can R&R the clutch with the bellhousing in place, I prefer to remove the bellhousing. All you have to do is support the engine under the oil pan with a 2x6 or similar between the pan and jack. For me it makes the job a whole lot easier with the bellhousing out of the way.

Re: Clutch replacement 62' C20

So I finally got it all changed out and now have the transmission spine shaft lined up in the clutch disk and most of the way in but can't get it completely in place I'm less than half inch out to bolting it back to bell housing like it won't go into the pilot bearing I'm thinking do I need to prime the new slave cylinder and release the pressure in the clutch to finish sliding it in back together to bolt the transmission to the bell housing any suggestions would be helpful and greatly appreciated
