Re: Best Power Steering Kit for the $

The worst bang for your buck can cause the geometry of the new power box to be out of alignment with the rod to your stock column. That in turn stresses the upper bearing under the steering wheel, causing it to fail. Best to buy from someone who actually maufacters the products he sells. That way if you have questions he will have answers. Some of the stuff from warehouse supply companies isn't even worth the metal it's made from. I've seen it first hand. (Just not on my own truck)

Yup that's a 230 or 250. Just wanted to make sure cause the mounting brackets I found are different. Can't help with a box and pump kit. But here's the mounting bracket:

You can get a p/s adapter plate for the gear box from CaptainFab.

Re: Best Power Steering Kit for the $

I have a 1965 C10 with an inline 230 and just recently installed power steering.
Parts I used:
Used 1974 Chevy/GMC truck PS gear box
Bought Captainfab PS bracket to mount the PS box to the frame
Used the telescoping lower steering shaft from the same 1974 truck
Cut my 1965 steering shaft shorter and had the lower end machined to the correct DD shape.
Then connected it to the 1974 shaft using a universal joint I bought on eBay. The universal joint relieves any of the stress issues that AcampoDave correctly called attention to in his post above.
You will have a fairly hard time finding an original inline 6 PS pump bracket but there are aftermarket pump brackets selling on eBay.
The hoses are also a little tricky to find but I managed to find some that work right out of the box.
