Daily driver 327 ideas?

Well have been driving my 1966 C-10 for 10 years or so now. Looks like its time for a rebuild.

Looking at about $500 - $800 to rebuild the 327.

Whats the most performance I could get out of the engine in that price range and have a fun daily driver.
Currently it has a Edelbrock streetmaster manifold and Edelbrock performer 600 cfm electric choke carb. Other then that its stock.

I think you'll be hard pressed to do a stock rebuild for that if you do all the work, including the machine work.

And it's a matter of opinion, but I could have a "fun daily driver" that's a 6 cylinder 3-speed.

You'll spend that much in machine work for a rebuild. $500ish without the heads being rebuilt. You will probably need to budget about $1,200ish for a rebuild with head rebuild included. That's for all stock internals. You can get a cam ground locally for a bit cheaper if you just let them know what cam profile you would like them to follow.

I agree that you are not going to rebuild a 327 in that price range. You might be able to do an overhaul, but that will likely be short lived.

Badge the 350 as a 283 and run a sneaky PCV system and use an intake manifold with a front oil fill tube. No one will ever know but you!

$500 is a refresh unless you own a machine shop yourself. $800 is getting closer, I'd say more like $1200 for a stock rebuild. Its the reason goodwrench 350's are so popular. But not having a 350 is cool, so rebuild.

I'd save about $2000. That way you have plenty to work with. Believe me you won't regret it. Bout the cheapest you could do a bone stock rebuild would be $1200 around here. And with $800 more on hand you'd have some play room....like zero decking the block for more compression....shaving the heads....or getting a new cam with some more lift....and yes...Balancing everywhere. I'd also look into headers and an hei. 327's are great engines. Run high quality oil and it'll last you a long time if you can keep your foot out of it. lol

I kicked this around too, and the best advice I got here was to buy a crate 350 if you are looking for "bang for the buck".

The rebuild thing is a "labor of love" but the economics don't pan out. If you really love your motor and want to keep the 3100 with the original motor, it makes sense.

The fact that you can get a brand new GM Motor for $1500 is just unbelievable, considering you'll have double that in a do it yourself job.

I thought about the crate motor with a 4x4 cam, and new vortec iron heads and intake. That would add about 1200, but "how sweet it is" and you could sell your 327 to spread that cost out a bit.

I just did a 327 shortblock bored/balanced they also freshened the heads up $1400.I could of saved a coupla $$ installing pistons and crank myself but hell they can do it while its there. The problem lies in finding a good machine shop that doesn't gouge you for there ego.
Don't really know until you tear it down you may just re-ring/bearing it and freshen heads up. Very good motors to run
