63 front drum to 89 disc

Hey fellas, I'm going to utilize the 89 spindles I have and put them in place of the 63 drums. I've priced the ball joints, discs, pads. I have the spindle, calipers and brake hoses. I'm going to keep the 6 lug so I'm getting the 3/4 ton disc, the question I'm having trouble finding out is, will I be able to use the 63 stock hub and bearings on the 89 spindle? Or when I get the replacement disc, is it the hub and disc? Has anyone come across or know? I appreciate the assistance!

Re: 63 front drum to 89 disc

If you are talking of using the '88-'98 factory light duty C2500 rotors, those DO NOT WORK on the '73-'86 C series or the '87-'91 R series spindles. The calipers do not line up with the rotor. If you want to have 6 lug rotors, you will have to purchase the aftermarket rotors. All '73-'87 C series front rotors have an integral hub. If you are using a spindle from a '89 C1500/LD2500, there are camber issues with using those.

X2.
Don't reinvent the wheel.
Use 63-70 conversion spindles and make your life easy.
Not being able to get the front end aligned will be the results of the road the OP is taking,....

So what aftermarket rotors should I be looking for to use on these 89 spindles?

re-read what captain fab wrote.

You need aftermarket rotors when using the 73-87 spindles.

The 88-98 spindle uses a factory light duty 6-lug rotor.
BUT THIS WILL CAUSE ALIGNMENT ISSUES when trying to use the 88-98 spindle on a 73-87 front suspension.

The only '89 spindles that will work for what you are wanting to do would be from a Suburban or Blazer. The '89 truck spindles will NOT work.

Re: 63 front drum to 89 disc

ok, I do have the whole set off of a 95 burban but it is a 5 lug, so I could feasibly get the 6lug rotor for that set-up then?

The square body 2wd suburbans ended in the 1991 model year.
These are the same as the 73-87 trucks.

The 1988-98 trucks, and 1992-1999 suburbans are totally different suspensions. Again,... using these front end parts on your truck will cause TOO MUCH POSITIVE CAMBER.
This will wear tires.
I'm not sure how to tell you any other way NOT TO USE these parts.

Stick with 71-72 or 73-87 truck (and 71-91 suburban) parts, if you don't want to use 63-70 conversion spindles.
