Re: Nice truck, but there is a hick-up in description

I don't think this is truck bashing and I actually greatly appreciate a thread like this. I am looking to buy a 67-72 C10 in Florida and have considered going to see this one several times since it is about 2 hours from me and it has been on ebay quite a while. However, something never sat right with me about it and I have not gone to see it (but I would have never spotted all the things you guys pointed out because I just don't have the knowledge yet). I think I will be leaving this one alone.

I'm kind of funny about "Original" grille rivets (and those are not). It's a really good sign when a nice truck has a super nice original grille surround and original rivets. Very hard to find.

Dan, are the original rivets the rosette style like the VIN plate uses?

The original grille rivets are smooth on the outside (unlike a "pop" rivet).

Re: Nice truck, but there is a hick-up in description

Really nice truck...and the bids to prove it...but I wouldn't be going higher.
You guys are really on it in terms of spotting things...I picked up on the paint discoloration but missed the steering column and the recessed marker lights.
Just when you think you are somewhat of an expert in these...you find you are learning stuff every day on this site.
...truck looks like a great driver.
All good

I agree that the truck isn't advertised as what it is. Lots of things changed over the years. Worded like a car lot sell...
Curious why you guys think it isn't a 72 dash cluster? (looks like a repro bezel I know)

the shame is even if you send a message he wont change it. that will ruin the value to him. instead the will deceive the buyer just to make a buck. there is no integrity in the car world anymore. when I sell stuff its straight forward. I rarely get people that come and complain that its not what it was supposed to be.

Re: Nice truck, but there is a hick-up in description

There are 10's of thousands of buyers out there , Using mommy and daddy's credit card to buy off ebay with no basic knowledge of anything about buying a 50 year old truck other than showing dad a picture in a magazine and saying " I want a patina one like this dropped on the ground with air ride " and when it shows up in their driveway barely running or rotting away , They eventually end up in here on the forum seeking answers they should have found BEFORE buying anything ! Instant gratification until reality sets in .

I don't know anything about this particular truck , just an observation of the new owners I see and hear about almost daily . They'll spend more time picking out a new phone

Ain't that the truth with this new generation.

I see it all over the place. I'm on Morel mushroom boards, forest foraging boards, dry aging beef boards...and everyone is an expert based upon someone elses misconception. They will get to the point of arguing with others that try to teach them

As for the truck. It's nice. Is it my cup of tea? No. Will someone buy it and be happy? Probably, until people point out everything that's been discussed here.

I don't see the point in trolling other websites, listing them on here and bashing the item for sale. Who cares if a car dealer lied or didn't know any better. Unless you are buying it and wanted clarification on it, it is irrevalant. Tire kickers are the main reason a lot of people hate trying to sell things. So now bash me for saying this. Lol . I'm not all original either.

it is fun trying to see if these trucks are original as the owners claim them to be....everyone just relax, no bashing going on that I can see, just alot of truck educated people giving their advice...should help all of us get better educated on these trucks...

I didn't say there was bashing going on. I am relaxed. I made that comment before it went that way as a reminder, as such threads have had a tendency to go that way. I'd rather see the thread continue, too, that's all. Constructive criticism is good, right?

Re: Nice truck, but there is a hick-up in description

...it looks like it finished up with a final bid of $14,100 with a 'no sell' and the reserve not being met.
So...maybe it will be re-listed to see if there are any takers heading into summer.

Re: Nice truck, but there is a hick-up in description

I sold used cars. I know what is done. Salesman sell cars. mechanics fix them. buyers buy them. Everybody is critical of used car salesman. and for the most part they should be.

that truck is not intended to be sold to people like us. wrong market niche. We can an ought to be allowed to be critical for the sake of the learning curve. As for the ethics of the sales representation. That salesman puts him self out there. He risks that to be a salesman. His choice. If the vehicle is misrepresented. the salesman takes a calculated risk. This kind of marketing is ruining the hobby at one end of the spectrum and used car market at the other end. Its not the cars fault. its the salesman.

Maybe the polite thing to do is to critique the vehicle but with the understanding that the other side of the coin is that unethical misrepresentation hurts our hobby. The clueless innocent ignorance routine acted out by salesmen is a facade.

the truck will stand or fall on its own merits. And so shall the salesman.

I think "original" means "not street rodded" to this salesman.
