69 C10 Headlight issues

Hi guys

The headlights in my 69 C10 only seem to work sometimes when I turn them on, parking lights always come on.

Any suggestions on what it could be?

Thanks in advance!

1. Dirty Headlight Switch.
2. Bad headlight switch connection (reach up under the dash and move it around and see if lights flicker).
3. Bad Ground somewhere in circuit.

Hi/lo dimmer switch (on the floor near the parking brake) is a common problem. Either the switch or its connector.

Thanks for that! Didn't even think that could be causing a problem with the main headlights. I pulled it apart and the entire connector is fried. When I wiggled it they would come on and off. Now I've got a mission trying to find a new one.

Any suggestions on how to get the pins out of the Hi/lo terminal?

Re: 69 C10 Headlight issues

After you rebuild that connector, google "headlight relay upgrade" on this site. You will never have to fix that again.

In stock form, the 45 year old wires full of cracks and fuzzy connectors draw too many amps which leads to melted connectors. The relay upgrade turns that wire connector in your hand into part of a relay selector.
