headers to close to tranny mount - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

i have a question and i hope someone has an answer. i have a 69 stepside chevy with a 350sb, it originally had a inline 6 with a 3 speed on the tree, i changed to a sb and put a 700r4 tranny in. i had to get a crossmember for the tranny at a junkyard and put it in myself. the headers i have are to close to the crossmember for the tranny on the passenger side. i have about 5.5 inches of clearence from the end of the header to the front of the tranny. is this right? i hanvt been able to drive this truck in 5 yrs

i am so close now but i need some advice!!!!

Any chance you could get some pic's so we could get a better idea of what you’re talking about?? Something doesn't sound right

i dont know if you can put the tranny crossmember in backwards or not! dont have a camera so i dont have any pics to have a good visual. are there different crossmembers (tranny) for different year trucks (67-72) or are they all the same? if i try to put the reducers on the headers the pipe is right dead in the middle of the crossmember. the header on the driver side seems alot lower than the passenger side. does this sound right?
the passenger side is higer by 2 inches. that is where i have the problem

i dont know if anyone has had this problem before but i cant seem to figure it out. im new to the site and enjoy all the info i get from it thanks for your help

Now are your referring to the member that holds up the rear of the transmission or up front near the bell house? The 3 speed tranny mounted up front near the bell house and the tail hung in the air. The auto will have the crossmember under tail of the tranny. Hope that helps...

ok- now this may sound a little strange, but is your motor mounted in the correct position for a small block?

(my motor is mounted incorrectly, and thus headers wont fit on my engine)....

just an idea.....

the crossmember is under the tail of the tranny.
i did have to move the motor forward because it had originally a 6 cylinder and the motor was to close to the cab. so i went to a local junk yard and got the right frame mounts. the motor is in the right place for a v8.the passenger side header is the problem, it sets to close to the collecter. thank you
