My other big project (my shop)
This spring my wife and I purchased our first home, the best part about it was I gained more storage then I need. We have spent most of summer working on building the shop/man cave as time and budget allows.

Re: My other big project (my shop)
I am jealous! I bought a house with barely any land and I am going to have to go through the permit process to put up a tiny 12x20 garage...

Re: My other big project (my shop)
The shop portion came with Insulation on one wall, but that wall smelled like mouse urine very bad. So we striped everything off and started over.

Re: My other big project (my shop)
I have a 30x40 cold storage which is attached by walk way from shop. The other pic is of my sign my buddy made me to go above my walk door. As extra cash allows, I collect a fair amount of porcelain signs and any local signs.

Re: My other big project (my shop)
With very limited spare time after harvest we were able to last minute get everything done to spray foam the center shop.

Re: My other big project (my shop)
After getting the close cell foam finished we are doing the walls in reclaimed wood. It's a slow process but i think it'll look good when done.

Re: My other big project (my shop)
JP, congratulations on that nice looking place you have there. Those kind of places don't come up for sale very often around here and is probably the same there. Did it belong to a relative or neighbor?

Re: My other big project (my shop)
Thanks, and no they don't often. It was a neighbor, funny thing was it sold in 12 and I was still in college and couldn't buy it but the couple who did sold to relocate back home for his job. So we couldn't miss the opportunity a second time.

Re: My other big project (my shop)
Spent a couple days over the holiday weekend working on the shop. We were able to get the heater hung up and the wall in that corner done atleast.

Re: My other big project (my shop)
Yesterday was a big day for improvement or so it seemed. My dad and I finished hooking up everything on the furnace and we put up a couple temporary lights. It feels nice to finally have heat and enough light to see without a flashlight in hand. I also got a couple more signs hung up.

Re: My other big project (my shop)
Nice looking place and good progress.
I'm building a 24' X 25' tubular steel shop with 12' walls. I'm thinking of using the spray foam. Did you rent a commercial sprayer or hire a crew to come do it for you? LINK HERE to see my BLOG showing the shop being built (in progress).

Re: My other big project (my shop)
I hired it done, it cost 1.50 a sq foot. That's 4-5 inches thick, I wouldn't do it any other way. It's very efficient and this way it won't degrade and fall down the wall overtime.

Re: My other big project (my shop)
That's a great price for 4 inches thick. I will probably only need 2 inches thick. I hope I can get a good price like that. Thanks for the advice.

Re: My other big project (my shop)
This is awesome! I wish I had the land where I could build something like this.
Unfortunately, I'm still stuck living the suburban life.

Re: My other big project (my shop)
Man that was cheap for the spray foam. back in 97' they quoted me $4.75 sq ft so I did not get it done. I may have to get it requoted. My shop is 40x80 with 16' walls and at the time they wanted $2k less then what I had in the entire building.

Re: My other big project (my shop)
richard2717,
Agreed. He got a cheap price. Like you, I was quoted over $2.50 a board foot. I can buy a kit from Home Depot and do it myself for about $1.20 a board foot.

Re: My other big project (my shop)
Maybe off the mark, but wondering how the curved roof joists were created. My first thought is to cut strips of plywood and create 50% overlapping laminations, then cut the curves.
I was at an airfield today w/ similarly shaped (sort of half circle or quanset) hangars and found the modular construction (lots of angle iron) interesting. I've read they make similar structures by laying a sort of fabric over a form and watering it. The fabric is concrete based and cures creating a strong structure. |
