Hurst floor shiftre

My son wants to put a Hurst floor shifter on his 1970 4x4 can this be done with out taking out the floor board there is all ready a junk shifter there want to go to a hurst is there enough room between the floor board to put on the brackets with out much trouble

Is it a granny low 4 speed?
If so, then he's stuck with the shifter that's there. Hurst doesn't have one for that type tranny.
Now, if it's an original 3 ott truck then maybe you'll have room for the brackets.

Should be!
Is it a high hump truck?
You won't know until you have a close look.
I'd do it from the bottom. Pulling the hump out is a pain in the butt!

Is he thinking he'll get better shifting or faster shifting?
It'll be better because it's a hurst but it won't be faster.

he's not looking for faster the one that's in there wont stay in adjustment just looking to have a more reliable shifter

The one he has can likely be simply fixed.
I've had several over the years.
