194's. I think they're like 2 candlepower. If you'd like them brighter, you can upgrade to 168's. They consume more power and get warmer but should be safe for use, many use them.

My 1970 c10 has 194s and also has some Sylvania 57 bulbs.

Re: dash ligh bulbs

I use nothing but 168 bulbs in all my restorations. They are 33% brighter than the 194 bulbs.

No customer complaints yet To answer the question, 194 bulbs are the correct bulbs.

Hook up a ground wire to the screw on the back of the panel next to the speedo. And maybe replace your switch too, if it's the original.

Re: dash ligh bulbs

As stated above it could be the resistor. If that's the problem, the fix may be very simple. The resistor dims the lights by rotating the knob and is basically a "U" shaped spring that may get a bit of corrosion on it if the knob is not rotated occasionally. A trick I learned as a kid from my dad in the 1950s was to periodically rotate the knob back and forth rapidly several cycles to remove any corrosion. I just took my '58 Vette out of storage and the dash lights didn't light. This trick fixed the problem. A small amount of spray electronic cleaner would also help if you can get to the resistor at the front of the switch.

Re: dash ligh bulbs

It stop working 15 years ago on my first rebuild and I replace the switch and still nothing. I took the gauge panel out this time to look at the switch and it looks new. I believe the gray wires coming out of the switch power the lights and I don't have any power there. I turned the knob a few times to make sure I didn't have them dimmed down and still nothing. I was thinking it was a ground problem so I'll try the ground idea when I take it apart again this week
