Re: early classic 4/6 drop kit

is it hard to get the front end aligned? I heard 3" was hard enough to align?? I am on the fence on what drop to go with. I want it to be a weekend driver but be able to get it aligned and not to have to notch the frame.

Re: early classic 4/6 drop kit

I have the ece 4/6 and have not gotten to ride on it yet. but I have to say this kit is 110% in quality! it is easy to install and the stance is perfect. i am running 17x8 7 17x9 265/60-275/60 and do not have any clearance issues at all when mocked up. you can kinda get an idea of how it will look.

I haven't ran 3" drop springs but I have heard that when you raise the truck up, the spring has the tendency to remove itself from the pocket; thus, ruining your alignment (essentially). IMO... get the drop spindles.

Thanks GK! This truck has been a blast to own since last January, and we're still not done. As soon as the bank account fills up, and time becomes available, I'll have some more updates for ya.

Re: early classic 4/6 drop kit

How much are you planning on towing? If it were me, and I was considering towing any weight, I would run a rear bag setup (on shraders if anything).

Check in with big al 71 as he installed the hidden receiver from ECE on his 4/6" drop.

Re: early classic 4/6 drop kit

Give Stan/Mark a call at ECE and they will fix you up with the right kit for what you are wanting to do. Unlike CPP, the guys at ECE only deal with 63-72 era trucks so they know the in's and out's of every component, configuration, etc. you can run.

Use of a 3" drop front spring is the max drop and the ablitlity to obtain the proper front end alignment. Other factors that can make alignments not possible, would be prior frame damage that makes the suspension out of specs.
Most 4/6 drop kits use a 2.5" drop spindle with a 1.5" drop spring,... so there are no chance of alignment issues.

Re: early classic 4/6 drop kit

i just installed a ece 6" rear drop kit in my 70 lwb. i had already added 1" blocks so i have a total of 7" drop. i am going to have to c-notch as it bottoms out bad on any minor bump. as far as install very easy, i torched out the rivets for the shock mounts, that was about the only major thing. but it rides like a dream now. still have the front to do. ece is the only way to go.

Re: early classic 4/6 drop kit

Bump to an old thread... If I only have leafs in rear end how would a 6" drop feel and the ease of the install. I want to do a 4.5" front and a 6" rear. I just got a 72 gmc Len and just got my ttII 18x7 front and 18x10 rear. Is this possible?I'm only running 265 50 rear and 235 50 front. I have a 6mm offset.

Re: early classic 4/6 drop kit

My '69 short step has the ECE 2 1/2" drop spindle disc conversion with 2" spring in the front and a DJM flip kit on the HD leafs in the rear. The flip netted 7" drop. I utilized 4 stock length shocks all the way around, but drilled the upper hole on the rear shock mount for a more vertical mounting. I removed the bump stop pads on the axle and utilized the DJM urethane pads on the frame rail for bump stops.

It didn't affect drop, but I removed the overload leafs on mine because the CalTrac bars were hitting them.

235 55 17 on 17x8 4.5" bs front and 275 55 17 on 17x9 5" bs rear. I would do this EXACT combo again.

Re: early classic 4/6 drop kit

I would need to do c notch with flip on leafs only? I already have front disk, even have factory rotor still on truck only has 60k miles on it.

Re: early classic 4/6 drop kit

My install thread: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=612794

1. Hows the ride? - I like the cornering. Bumps are not great. The included shocks are junk. I've ordered CPP replacement shocks. If that doesn't work, Ride Tech has some really nice shocks which ECE actually uses in their personal truck.
2. do i need to c-noth the frame? - No.
3. What wheel sizes are people running? 15"
4. was the install easy? (seems easy) See my thread. I think yes. ECE misses some of the instructions but it's not terrible.
5. did you like the kit? Yes. Ride Tech has a static kit for our trucks that I believe is higher quality then ECE, but it is much more expensive. With ECE, you get the looks for cheap, and an ok ride.

I did not c-notch mine, but it does use the urethane stops on big hits. I've hauled several hundred pounds in the bed and it's no worse. But depends on how you use it and what does or doesn't bother you.
