What's a good muffler for a 230?

What's a good muffler for a stock exhaust system with a stock 230? I want to hear the good old 6-banger run a little, but don't want to wake up the neighbors.

Here is my 250 with Brockman Mellowtone steelpacks. I love them; sounds great but not loud.

Re: What's a good muffler for a 230?

I'm not sure what the muffler is but I asked for a big, quiet muffler for mine. I'm not a fan of loud 6's but I enjoy listening to my 292 through this exhaust

Went with this one. Sounds great with the 6. I've actually gotten compliments on it.

WALKER 17829 SoundFX; 27"

Exhaust stuff is pretty easy if you have one of these:

What did you do w/ the exhaust routing? My can is rusted and the tail pipe must have fallen off a while ago. I actually don't know if the pipe btwn manifold and muffler is in good enough shape to keep using. But presuming it is, I still would need to route something back, over rear axle, and out the back.

Walker still makes the header pipe and the tailpipe, and hangers. You'll have to make the pipe from the back of the muffler to the tailpipe. I used scrap exhaust tubing and flex pipe. Most stuff is available at Pep Boys/O'Reilly.

Search for WALKER 48111, WALKER 44144 and WALKER 35458. Do GMC's have leaf rear springs? May be a little different, not sure.

Yep rear leafs. I'll probably just end up taking it to a muffler shop.

Took it to the muffler shop in town here. $170 installed for a stock-style can, tube routed back, over the axle, and out the side behind the rear tire. Maybe a bit pricey for a basic muffler, but I'm happy to support the last remaining muffler shop in town, an independent guy who's been here for 15 years.

That is not a bad price. A local muffler shop quoted me over $400 and I already had the muffler!

Re: What's a good muffler for a 230?

That's a good choice and price. I paid $60 for the aluminized coated Walker muffler for a recent stock replacement exhaust project. It's nice and quiet and the price was right.
