New pickup no gas cap

Not sure the reason behind the no gas cap idea. We have a 3/4 mile gravel driveway, I know it is sealed but there is nothing to keep dirt from settling in the filler recess then into the tank next fill up. Does anybody know the reason? Ford did the same a few years ago.

Re: New pickup no gas cap

It lets people get their "inner NASCAR" on. Moreover, the idea is ostensibly to prevent emissions issues from loose fuel caps. Of course, there's nothing to prevent the inner seal from leaking over time and costing way more than a new gas cap to fix...

Re: New pickup no gas cap

My wife's mustang has it and I hate it too. Another reason is I like to open the door and clean/hose out the filler area, can't do that on the wife's Mustang.

What year is your truck? I have a NBS 2015 and it has a fuel cap.

17' 1500 Silverado, stupidest thing I've seen for a while. My 14' had a cap. Those EPA yo yo's need fired. I put a rattle can top over the filler, there was water sitting in the recess from the car wash the other day.

Re: New pickup no gas cap

Here's what I'm talking about, at least Ford tried to seal the flap, GM didn't even do that. Nice pickup otherwise.

Re: New pickup no gas cap

I had a rental '17 Suburban this past week. First time I'd seen the "capless" design. So if it gets full of dust and dirt, what do you wash it of with...gas?

Short thinkers everywhere these days.

They did that so the fuel filter could keep its job

Get this... my Mustang has a "lifetime" fuel filter... basically it has no in line fuel filter and basically a "sock" at the end of the pump...

This isn't my Mustang, but a pic I found online, Ford has a seal on the door that "seals off" the inner area.

This looks exactly like my truck... It almost looks like that thing screws on over the fuel filler neck... you might be able to remove it and just buy a 14-16 fuel cap?

Exclamation Re: New pickup no gas cap

My buddy was late to work one day said he was stuck at the gas station. Well he filled up an couldn't get the nozzle out of his new mustang. The last couple inches of the nozzle has a "tip" of sort on it that got hung coming out on the little flap in the cap . He was there for hours waiting on maintenance, got there and got it out with a heavy sheet of thin paper/plastic like product they work down into the cap. Lol, I never noticed the tip on the nozzle until after that day.

Re: New pickup no gas cap

I don't have one of those but if the custom, aftermarket sees a demand for something that will work, I will bet someone will make it.

Just my 2 cents on that

Re: New pickup no gas cap

more crap to go wrong that costs way more money to fix then it should.

have had 2 fords in the shop so far for evap leaks thanks to these designs so you cant just slap a $5 gas cap on it to fix it. lucky for the customers ford covers their emissions stuff for those vehicles 8 years 80,000 miles so no idea what the repairs would have costed
