Re: 4x4 parts 60-66

Not sure if you're shooting for original OEM stuff but I pulled my 221 BC it started making more noise than was comfortable for me. Swapped in a Dodge divorced 205. Been working great for quite a few miles.

How in the heck did you crack the case though?

Yeah mid 70s dodges used a divorced np205 its not a rockwell but a lot better upgrade and you can get replacement parts for them. The replacement parts for the rockwells are almost zero.

Re: 4x4 parts 60-66

Do a search on here for T221. I looked at it a while back and there are one or two places that have replacement parts for them.

I sold all my 221's about 18 years ago to a guy in western South Dakota. (??? My memory of where isn't so good anymore.)

The hardest part to find one to match would be the long flange ear on the one side that supports it. The later models were married and you could use those, but the mounting is different.

Good Luck!

Re: 4x4 parts 60-66

I've got the original T-case from my '62 K10. Shipping would probably be rough--zip code is 30549.
If you want to check into the cost of shipping, let me know.
Depending on your timeline, I'll be coming to Bonneville in August and can bring it with me.

Ouch! Rough!

I think that the one that I got was out of a '73 or '72. It hangs by 4 - 5/8 or 3/4 threaded rods through 1-3/8" holes that I drilled through the existing X member. I used the poly version of the T221 bushings to mount the t case, had a new shaft cut and have been running it for a few years. Only paid a couple hundred for the 205 which was way less than rebuilding the 221 or even finding some of the parts for it.

The 221 is a pretty decent case if you can keep it cool. The issue is that it transfers power through a countershaft which inherently introduces more heat in the operation. The cool thing (no pun intended) is that due to the use of the countershaft, front and rear output yokes are located lower than the input which means reduced driveshaft angles.

I did have to mess around with the spring perches and angles a bit during that swap.

Re: 4x4 parts 60-66

Divorced 205's came in Fords, Internationals, and Chevy's too, starting in 66 I believe. They all have there own mounting styles. The Dodge version shown is probably the easiest for a conversion as the Dodge cross member is easy to remove from the donor and can be bolted in without needing an engineering degree. The International Travelall style also has a user friendly cross member plus they are usually cheaper as most folks don't know what they have. The Ford style is the worst for conversions plus it is drivers side drop for the front axle.

Glad to hear nothing else bad happened the day your 221 went south.
