The AD trucks at a local car show.

This one is as local as it gets for me, they hold the annual Toppenish Rat Rod and classic car show at a park two miles from the end of my driveway.

This is an open run that just about anyone with the entry fee in his or her hand can enter and has a variety of rigs including several AD trucks this year. Most were in the patina category but there was a really nice 52 there and some well done under construction ones

There is a TF truck in this photo that I didn't notice. I didn't investigate all of what was going on but they were taking pinup photos of the gal on the hood of the Ford in front of the TF and I didn't walk around to get a better look at the truck.

Ah shoot I'll just stick all the Chevy and GMC trucks in.
Pretty nice driver quality longbed

One of the more presentable rat rods. Well constructed truck that would be a nice bobber truck if the front end was pulled back in under the front of the frame.

This will keep those Honda Civics and Buicks from cutting in front of you in the Walmart parking lot.

This one honestly looked like they took sandpaper to a nice paint job the night before the show.

Change of camera setting causing a color shade change

Re: The AD trucks at a local car show.

This truck was pretty straight and I'd expect to see some nice paint next year.

For the mid 30's truck guys

I did say it was an open show but If I didn't have so many vehicles now I'd like to have this one.

If you ever question why I don't like big rims on older cars take a serious look at this photo.

The pedal cars were out in force and many were far better finished than most of the cars.

Re: The AD trucks at a local car show.

Again they had no rules as to what you could enter as long as you had the entry fee.

Not a truck but many of the guys on here have built really nice trucks for less than the cost of the paint and chrome on this one.

Yes that actually is the reflection of a chrome plated gas tank in the mirror under the Monte.

One of the nicest stone stock 52 Chevy pickups I have seen in a while and the owner is one of the nicest gents I have met in quite a while.

About the only non stock item I saw on the 52. I wanted to put some on my truck back in the 70's and never did.

No changes from original here.

When the owner saw me take the previous photo he walked up and asked If I would like to have him close the hood and I said that would be nice so I took his photo with the truck.

I like them with the hoods closed

Lots of hydraulics and bags on the rigs in this one

I've seen this truck running around the area for years and I don't know if the same guy has always owned it but it tends to see minor changes from time to time. Some times you see it with skirts and some times not and now it has the wheels that all of the members of one local lowrider club run rather than the wheels and wide whites it used to have.

Some nice trucks! But I have to say, this one, that is the worse "patina" job of all time, hands down, the worse.

Re: The AD trucks at a local car show.

Thanks for showing the pics. Also not into the big wheels with the rubber band tires but then to each his own. I'd never tell anyone at a show that looks like ***t, I'll just walk on by. I don't put down another man's ride, it's what makes car shows interesting. Personal tastes differ.

Like the military 6 by in the back ground of the one pic. Reminds me of the deuce and a half's and the 5 tonners I drove for my Uncle Sam years ago both in Germany and Viet Nam. Those things were beasts but got the job at hand done. Don't see a lot of them at the shows.

This is one of the best event calendars in the PNW http://www.cruzinmag.com/calendar.html Cruzin magazine also covers a lot of the PNW events in the magazine. I find it at Fred Meyers but you can find it at Barnes and Nobel and other places with good magazine racks.

There is another even coming up that usually draws a higher quality level of rods and customs and that is the Iron Angles show. Same park with lots of grass a play area for the kids if you have any and easy walking to a variety of food places.

It wasn't over done and I think that what makes it so nice. Lots of attention to detail but it really did look like it just rolled out of the dealership in 1952 except for the step plates and I can't knock him for the step plates.

Here is the link to the album with the rest of the photos I took at the show. I missed a few clunkers like the ford Tempo with the paint sanded off and a serious coat of rust claiming to be a rat rod and a few stone stock late models that slipped in. There are a few really nice early 60's Impalas and some top notch lowriders with serious hydraulics. I still have to force myself to take photos of rat rods as I feel they are a detriment to the hobby but it was a rat rod show so I photographed most of them. The link to my album- http://s173.photobucket.com/user/mr4...?sort=2&page=1

It's an "AC" unit of sorts commonly called a "Swamp cooler". It has water in it and the air going through is cooled by the water. Serious vintage stuff. They reproduce them now though I think.

Re: The AD trucks at a local car show.

My dad had one that he had picked up in the 50's stored in a shed where he lived and when he went to dig it out to use on my 51 Merc on a road trip to Texas someone had carted it off. They go for big bucks now but your significant other might get upset if you over fill it as it is actually a swamp cooler for a car or truck and too much water in it ends up blowing on the passenger of the rig.

You typically see them on lowriders.

I didn't want to be negative, but I thought the exact same thing. Not that I've done a patina before but I'm pretty sure you put the dark color underneath and then sand down to it instead of painting on top of an otherwise good coat of blue.

I can't say one way or the other, I honestly don't like the fake patina look, don't get it, just don't get it. So I can't say how to do it well, just like I can't sing very well but could tell you when Adele hits a bad note (if that were to ever happen.)

I am sorry, I don't get it, I just don't get it. A virgin original cool old car or truck with funky paint, yep I get it and I love seeing it. A fake aged car, I don't get it.

Thanks for taking the time to post the pics! There were some nice trucks there and some cool rides. I also don't care for the huge wheel/rubber band tires. There were some nice AD trucks there for sure!

We always try to make the Maryhill show as my wife likes the other stuff they have in the way of vendors for the ladies.

I've been to show at the Dalles years ago but for some reason always forget when it is on. We even went down a week early one year when I got mixed up.

I want to go to Billetproof in Chehalis as it may be the last one if the producer doesn't get someone to take it over. Fun show but as it says it is a no billet anything event.
