Is this normal (Pic)
Is it normal to have visible splindles on the driveshaft showing where it connects at the carrier bearing?
1968 GMC 2500 Thanks!!! |

Might help to know whether it is an automatic or 3,4 speed truck. I think my automatic shows the splines yet not that deep into the carrier bearing.
Are you having any drivetrain issues? |

I think we are looking at a slip joint. It moves in and out for the rear end to flex (or back and forth)

Re: Is this normal (Pic)
It's a 400 Turbo. 3 speed Automatic. I installed a 454 with a 400 Turbo attached to it. I removed a 383 Stroker with a 400 Turbo attached to it. The tail shaft of the new engine/trans slide right in. Then when I went underneath to tighten everything I saw the spindles showing. Of course I don't remember if they were showing when I removed old engine/trans. No previous drivetrain issues...but I wanted to make sure I didn't cause this installing new combo, which seems nearly impossible because it's bolted/fixed position at both ends.

Re: Is this normal (Pic)
Here is a SBC behind a Turbo 350 in the foward engine position with a 2wd truck. There is a set of bolt holes in most frames for the 4wd trucks for the engine mounting location.
Hope this helps, stock drive lines also! |
