1971 chevy pu alternator problem

I just rewired my entire truck. Apparently I threw out my voltage regulator it was old rusted and I didn't even know what is was. Now everything on the truck works fine new engine and all except the charging system doesn't work. All lights starts signals everything works. Can anyone tell me what to do? Can I buy an alternator or generator that doesn't need a voltage regulator? Can somebody tell me how to wire my existing alternator the right way?

Re: 1971 chevy pu alyternator problem

One thing at a time. There are two types of alternators... externally regulated, and internally regulated. I won't make any assumptions to the kind of alternator that's on the truck now. Look for some numbers on it, or take a picture of the back of it and we can go from there.

What kit did you wire the truck with? Did you wire it for an external regulator or not? What wires do you currently have at the alternator?

I just replied to your PM and included the link above which should explain all you need to know to wire in the CS alternator.
