Disc brakes conversion and bearings size question.

I purchased a disc brake kit from eBay that uses the stock drum brake spindles and hub. http://www.ebay.com/itm/172630363946...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT. I read this in another post from a member here and wanted to know if this could be accurate.

"Those disc brake conversions that use the stock spindles are NOT the way to go!!! I'm pretty sure that the heavy duty drum versions likely used the same spindle.
The disc brake spindles use bigger bearings and are better made for better stopping."

If you keep the parts maintained I can't see this being g a issue.

Re: Disc brakes conversion and bearings size question.

SSBC has been around at least 20 years so I would call them directly and get your questions answered. If the people you purchased the kit from is a legitimate distributer there should be no problems.

Re: Disc brakes conversion and bearings size question.

I agree that SSBC is a reputable company. However, due to marketing at a competitive price point, even a major company may produce an upgrade package that may work but it is not a 'premium' build.

I would suggest that when contacting SSBC, be certain to ask them if there is a more performance oriented brake package that uses larger spindle/bearings. You can then decide if the up charge is justified for your needs.

Re: Disc brakes conversion and bearings size question.

Ok I may do that. Just wondering if the bearings would be inadequate for drums too as they served the same purpose. I would think the drum brakes would get as hot as discs? I will contact them but Info here is most welcome too.

Re: Disc brakes conversion and bearings size question.

Ok I haven't gotten my kit but here are photos of the kit installation I found. I did bearing size checks between stock discs and drum hubs. The rear bearing is the same size and the front is a little bigger but not much. The race is only 1/8" bigger. I'm really not sure why this is a " NO NO" if anyone sees something I don't please enlighten me before I add this to my truck. If I do I will order another set of rotors for extras just in case.
