Seat track factory finish question
I have a 72 Cheyenne super with bucket seats. I am trying for as close to a factory correct finish on all parts as possible. What finish was on the bucket seat tracks and pass side riser mounts? My tracks look like they were parkerized? And my pass side risers had some signs of black paint on them. Any help is appreciated.

Re: Seat track factory finish question
Yes, I always thought it looked like parkerizing. Semi gloss chassis paint would work though. Don't you think?
If you find someone who can parkerize something that big though, it would be great. |

Re: Seat track factory finish question
I use heat / oil quench on some hard metal parts after media blasting to get that "factory" steel look . It can bring back that "factory " look to the hard steel parts and helps with rusting . Repeated cycles will darken the color using used motor oil .This is a 50 year old tailgate latch .
( In a well vented area away from your home / garage don't burn down your shop ) door latches , seat tracks , tailgate latches ,etc, etc Last edited by Grumpy old man; 06-16-2017 at 11:15 AM. |

Re: Seat track factory finish question
That does look great. I can get the pieces parkerized no problem. I am hoping for a definite answer before I do it.
I restored a 1945 Ford GPW army jeep. There is a website dedicated to the colour and finish of every jeep part for people looking to do factory correct restorations. I'm surprised something similar hasn't been done with these popular trucks. |

Re: Seat track factory finish question
If I recall correctly, the passenger side brackets on my '69 were painted from day 1. Below is a zoomed version of a picture I took in 2010 before I restored the truck which appears to verify that. I don't believe the driver side was painted. It was probably the same finish as on bench seat trucks.
Both sides are painted now. |

Re: Seat track factory finish question
Looks like we all agree that driver side bucket seat tracks were not painted. I did paint mine though, and they look good that way. I'm also equally sure the passenger side bucket seat brackets were painted. 3sonsdad also stated in his first post that his passenger side brackets looked like they had been painted.

Re: Seat track factory finish question
More often than not, I make use of heat quench on some hard metal parts after media blasting to get that factory steel look
