Door glass channel install help
Just bought a 72 Chevy truck (common theme around here it appears). Both window regulators were/are bad so I've ordered replacements. Anyways, the metal channel that goes on the bottom of the door glass has fallen off. I bought the flat rubber inserts that go in the channel and around the bottom of the glass (to eliminate vibration I presume). I don't know what kind of adhesive I need to be using to glue the glass back into the channel. Any help would be appreciated. thanks

Silicone doesn't last . toss the rubber inserts and use windshield sealant urethane sealer .do it once and be done with it .

Re: Door glass channel install help
If it's the thin rubber sheeting that you wedge the bottom of the door glass into, then the 1968 Chassis Service manual recommended painting it with clean 30 weight engine oil. The oil would breakdown the rubber into an adhesive, and not rattle.
I couldn't find the archaic rubber sheet stuff, so I used some super adhesive a glass shop sold me, and now I can't get that window loose.

Re: Door glass channel install help
You dont glue them in you are supposed to use window seam tape. If you heat it and tap it on it will stay very good. You can get a roll of it on ebay about 15 bucks. Measure the gap. Subtract the width of glass and devide by two for correct thickness. Get it slightly thick and the heat and rubber mallet will make a snug fit. Dont use oil even though thats what they used to do.

Re: Door glass channel install help
Well I listened to the wrong guys 11 years ago. Now I may have to cut out the stuck window regulator with a cutting wheel. The regulator is stuck down, or about 1'' up. Won't go up. Won't go down. Gear stripped. Has to go all the way up to disassemble IIRC. Anyway I'm stuck til the new regulator gets in from GMC Paul.
Be some fun getting that window glass out. Sorry for the hijack.
