Fuel selector valve questions...
I have a 1980 k10 that I'm going through and it appears that the PO bypassed the fuel tank selector valve. I decided to replace it with a new one and I'm having a hard time finding the oe part. It looks like the original 6 port 1 wire valve is no longer available. I can only find the 6 port multil wire universal set up. Can I tie the return lines together or just plug them off and use the 3 port 1 wire valve that is readily available or can I use this 6 port universal one and tie into the existing one wire set up without having to run all of the other wires?

Re: Fuel selector valve questions...
I ordered one a couple years ago from these guys, http://www.oehq.com/, under part number ACD467513, maybe give them a call and see if they have one kicking around still

Re: Fuel selector valve questions...
This is the one-wire solenoid unit. Looks like they have it.

Re: Fuel selector valve questions...
I am installing new tanks and need to get a new selector valve and the dash switch for it. Want to go with the one wire valve, what year(s) used that valve and what dash switch would need to be used with it to control it as well as switch the fuel gauge between tanks?

Re: Fuel selector valve questions...
That's the function of the multi wire selector valve.

Re: Fuel selector valve questions...
With the one-wire solenoid valves, the sender wires were both carried forward and they were switched on the dash. That switch has five connectors on the back. The two-connector side is used to switch the solenoid on and off, while the three-connector side is used to switch the sender wires. It is GM part number 329854.
With the motorized valves, the dash switch is a polarity-reversing switch with four contacts on the back (two in the center and two on one end), and the sender wires are switched by the multi-wire valve unit on the fram rail with only one wire going forward to the gauge. I think that started in 1982. The GM part number is 15591149. Anyway, that's what I found out poking around. Easy thing to check: how many connectors on the back of your existing switch.

Re: Fuel selector valve questions...
Mine is an 84 and was originally a diesel, now is a gasser. The wiring is junk and the switch and valve is gone and the gas gauge doesnt work so I wanted to buy a new one wire valve and a new switch to go with it. There was only one tank in it when I bought it, PO said the other one started leaking and he took it out. Now the remaining one has started leaking. I bought 2 new tanks and need to get them put in so I can get my truck on the road again. So if I go looking for a switch from an 81 or older, that will be the 5 terminal switch?

For that matter, any DPDT switch will work in that application.

Re: Fuel selector valve questions...
Hi guys, Need some major help with fuel lines from the tanks to the selector value.
Have 78 Cheyenne with duel saddle tanks and dropped both to do a restoration and some welding on the frame. Problem is now the truck wont run because the fuels not getting to the carb. It HAD the drivers set as the only tank and had the return and supple lines directly to and from the carb. Runs when I pour fuel directly into carb but can't get the motor to "pull" fuel. Suggestions please !!! Last edited by 78Cheyennejoe; 06-25-2017 at 02:11 PM. |
