SC Vacation Junkyard Crawl

Instead of idly lying on a boring beach I decided to visit a local Pick 'n Pull that had been advertising a 72 C-10. I showed up there last Saturday with tools in hand only to be told that the truck "wasn't available yet." Calls the next 5 days repeated that message. It finally showed on their website this AM so back I went. The truck still wasn't where it was supposed to be in the yard but a kind employee found it for me.

Although not previously stripped, this poor vehicle is used up. Anything interesting is rusty, bent, smashed or missing. The SPID is in it and shows an interesting example of a workingman's options list; no auto, air or radio but anything that was upgradeable to heavy duty was in there: HD springs, alternator, battery, etc. Nothing there for me but it was still great to see one in a junkyard as that is getting rare anywhere on the east coast.

Re: SC Vacation Junkyard Crawl

As a nice bonus, this 1968 C-30 flatbed was parked in the back being readied for salvage. It looks like it was pulled from a field as the cab is one giant nest for something. The SPID is intact but it was too hot to bother cleaning it enough to read. While I had the glove compartment open I noticed that the original 1968 owners manual was in there with the Protecto-Plate (rusty)! The V-8 engine is in the truck, covered with a floor mat. A very cool sighting.

Re: SC Vacation Junkyard Crawl

If you will forgive the off-topic post, this vehicle was my coolest sighting of the day. It is also in a reserve area for future sale along with the C-30. Naturally the engine is gone but my heart raced a bit when I saw the apparently authentic "SS" badge on the front grille.

Looks like fun. Did a little of that myself yesterday and hauled home a whole truck!

Ata boy
Good diversion
Definitely looks pretty banged up
Hard to tell from pics but that looks like a Cheyenne
With all its bent trim still intact

Thy expert eye
Expertly applied,

ID a Cheyenne.

All trim it was bent
And worth not a cent
All metal was rusted,
All gauges were busted.

Joe Farmer's old truck
Most surely did suck,
But it still was hard
To see it in the junk-yard.

Just opportunity and serendipity. Who knows, it could have had extreme benders, speed warning, AM-FM, PA-1s, etc. Whoops, I was 0-for-everything but at least I got a chance to take a look. Now if your local wrecks have anything exotic, then please let me know.

Re: SC Vacation Junkyard Crawl

I know of a couple A/c intact trucks , a very nice rust free set of red/white front fenders that I've been eyeing just to cut the cups off of ,72 door panel inserts /chrome I'll take a better look at them this next week .

Re: SC Vacation Junkyard Crawl

The ps set up would be missing if i was there, also a few of the smaller parts too.

I always try too snag those c 30 emblems too, but I see that wasn't possible.

I haven't seen any new 67-72 c/k 10, 20 or 30 come in any local yards around here all summer....yet.

I can't say I blame you hmmm, yard or beach?
oh yhea!
I can get a tan while at the yard too.

win win.lol
