1952 3800 v8 conversion
Are the frames up front the same between the 3100 and 3800 style trucks? Building a 51 3800 9ft bed. After googling around for the mounts I need to slap a small block in it all I'm finding is stuff for 3100's

Re: 1952 3800 v8 conversion
OK thanks, so I need to find a kit for the 3800 specifically. Some of them looked adjustable but still always said for 3100. I'll keep looking, if anyone found one to work please post a link to what I need

Re: 1952 3800 v8 conversion
if you have a stock front axle, solid, then you will need to find an oil pan etc that will clear when the suspension goes over a bump or to fully loaded. check what others may have used. then bolt the engine and trans together and drop it in for mock up. you can simply fab something up if you are handy.

Re: 1952 3800 v8 conversion
im not going to use the factory i-beam or whatever the proper name is, doing a solid straight axle set up, basically a dana 44 front axle without the differential. so the truck might be slightly lifted when im done with it. if i gotta fab up my own engine mounts then so be it, i just figured it would just be easier to buy something pre-made.

i just searched around this site typing in random key words like 3800 v8 and cant find anything. i just find it kinda strange that its not more common then im finding. i love building bigger trucks but a 1/2 ton seems like it would have been way easier edit... after searching around the internet for like another hour last night i gave up, i found a universal small block kit made my trans dapt and ordered it, im sure i can make it work even if i have to modify it. held off on the trans mount for now as i have like 5-6 random ones laying around off 80s and 90s chevys Last edited by abig84; 05-30-2017 at 01:48 PM. |

do you have any pics a little further away. those mounts look a little bit different then they sbc mounts im used to seeing.
i ordered a trans adapt universal v8 motor mount assembly which says it will not work for my truck for some reason but at least i have the mounts and something to modify if it does not fit |

Re: 1952 3800 v8 conversion
I used this mount in my 3100 but it was too wide and had to cut a couple inches off each side, it's more of a universal mount. How wide is your frame?

Yeah, I'd use that also Use a Full Brace all the way across for a 3100 Frame - those are Lighter .. |

Re: 1952 3800 v8 conversion
I lost all my build pics when my computer crashed.
I had to offset my engine to clear my steering box, but I don't think that's a issue on the bigger trucks. I set mine as close to the firewall as I could get, with room to pull the distributor and valve covers. |
