67 guru's....step inside
I just picked up a '67 CST 20 that's been in a leaky shed for the past 30 years. Has buddy buckets and factory tach....neither of which are on the SPID. I thought I read somewhere that all 67 csts came with buddy buckets, so I can see why not on SPID. What about tach though? This thing is dead nuts original and I can't see the old farmer swapping in a tach dash 40 some odd years ago. Thoughts?

Re: 67 guru's....step inside
it doesn't make any difference , there are no numbers matching trucks so it is what it is , get a new spid and print it to reflect what the truck has currently .

Re: 67 guru's....step inside
even back in the 80's when these trucks were not worth that much, when we see a cool option in a junk yard we got it and installed it. so who knows if the tach is authentic factory or not.
but like as said above, if its not real then fake it. and ditto the SPID |

Re: 67 guru's....step inside
yea, 30 years in a shed only brings you into the 80's theres 10+ years of life unaccounted for, and during the period when replacement parts from junk yards would have been at its peak...

If the original SPID is intact, I think that would be worth more (emotionally and monetarily) than a fake reproduction SPID, especially one that misrepresents the original truck. This reminds me of the whole big block corvette debacle, and how there are more "factory" big block vettes sold at auctions than GM actually produced..... (maybe it was specifically the 63' split windows, I cant recall the specifics...) I have no problem upgrading my cars with factory features, but I wouldnt ever try to deceive or pass them off as ORIGINAL features to my vehicles...

Re: 67 guru's....step inside
No reason to fake a SPID...not a believer in that.

Re: 67 guru's....step inside
And there are numbers matching trucks* and they are what a true knowledgeable collector seeks. These days with Tom, Dick, Harry, and average Joe all into these trucks that higher level of interest has been diluted and values are the same to them whether it's factory original or a pieced together phony. I'll still pay more and desire them more if authentic originals.
Sounds like a really cool find. I love barns and out buildings * Meaning highly optioned and still with all it had from factory. It matters to those who know what's what. I've bought more than my share of original highly optioned trucks for being correct originals.

He could have been a farmer who also owned the baddest muscle car on the planet and knew it was critical to keep an eye on RPM's, so he dug one out of a wreck. Could have had a friend who was in an accident or parting out another truck and asked if he'd like to have or buy the tach dash. Maybe he loved that particular truck but it didn't have a tach, so he told the dealer to install it after purchasing the truck. The truth is you won't know unless you find him and he's got a good memory. |
