Door windows slide back and out of track
Is there a spring or retainer that should keep the windows forward and into the track so that the dont slide back?
I dont have the inner door panels on yet because they didnt do it right before I took the panels off prior to paint but think that maybe the inner window felt on the panel may help keep them outboard and more prone into the track. Is that correct? |

Re: Door windows slide back and out of track
On my 74 and my 76 the bracket that holds the bottom of the rear window channel breaks the spot welds and the channel doesn't hold window forward anymore allowing window to fall out of the channel I just put window back in track rolled it up and tack welded it back into place

Re: Door windows slide back and out of track
Mine did the same thing. Aside from the bad track rubber, I found the bolts to the track a little loose, readjusted the tracks and tightened them up. I'll have to do it again when the new track rubber gets put in.

Re: Door windows slide back and out of track
Here are some pics from a spare door I have you can see the tack welds pic 2 is the bolt holding the bracket also if it hasnt broken loose they do bend very easily so it may have been bent back allowing the window to fall off track

Re: Door windows slide back and out of track
My rails are not cracked or separated. When you go to roll the window down now, even with the door panels in, they slide back and away from the forward window channel and you then need to guide them by hand back up.
They didnt do this BEFORE getting my vent windows rebuilt/resealed and now its a pain, especially with my kids riding in it sometimes. |

Re: Door windows slide back and out of track
Still dealing with this years later. I think my explanation was confusing. The window pops out of the door guide/track that it seals up into. If driving, the wind will pull the window out enough that I rolls up outside of the door frame if I don't hold it forward into the door frame/seal. Like there should be a spring or something holding tension forward. Any ideas?

Re: Door windows slide back and out of track
There has to be something out of alignment inside your door. Pop you panel off and look inside. The rear slide should move forward. I had to actually cut a notch in my door to get it to adjust forward enough to hold the glass tight. I am guessing your rear slide is either loose, or broken. mine was both

Re: Door windows slide back and out of track
There are several videos you can watch on youtube to understand the entire door and window setup. Here's a few:
