Heat Hose Routing
I can't find a good picture of how my hoses should be hooked up for my heater.
I'm starting from scratch here, since everything is torn apart and the original setup had been scabbed together. From what I can tell, it looks like one hose runs from the thermostat housing to the heater core and then another hose runs from the heater core to the water pump. I think I have that part down fairly well. But the valving has me confused. Does a valve go on each hose? And what is the valve really for? Is it just to turn off the water? Or is it for adjustments in flow? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Rick |

The valve (inlet hose only) cuts the water flow to heater core when you turn AC on. Only opens when you turn heater on. It is controled by a vacumn operated valve. By the way I checked your thread on your progess and the pictures are great. My son (orangeuavol) is doing the exact same buildup with a 402 BB. Keep the pictures coming!

Unfortuately, I will be running without AC at this time. That's an upgrade for the future. LMC shows inline valves for systems without AC also. And they actually show two different types of valves.

There are no valves on my non- AC truck. The 3/4 hose goes from the water pump to the top of the heater core, and the 5/8 from the intake goes to the bottom.

Sorry thought you had AC. In non AC deals the valve can be shut off in summer to stop flow of hot water thru heater thus making it somewhat cooler in truck. It is not necessary as the air valve lever will keep any air from flowing thru heater also.
