Re: Windshield wiper: 2 speed to intermittent

another question to toss out here-

I'm late model engine swapping my truck('76 GMC) and adding cruise control and what not.

My current thought is to use a later model column that has a stalk for cruise control and I guess wipers.

Does anyone know when cruise control came out?

So basically I'm looking at-
84+ wiper motor with fender mounted washer pump/tank
78-83 wiper motor linkage arm and nut
84+(or when cruise came out) wiper switch(column) and module.

I am assuming the 84+ still had a separate module for wipers?

What yall think?

If you have a 73-77 truck and wish to use the 78-83 style pulse wiper switch you will need:

78-83 wiper motor
78-83 wiper motor linkage arm and nut
78-83 wiper switch and module
Underdash and underhood wire harness extensions.

For wiring you can follow the basic diagram for the 78-83 trucks and adapt this to your truck-keep in mind 1978 was the first year for the mini fuse panel vs older glass type so the wiring changed colors also from 77 to 78-this is why I offer a control harness which is correctly color coded for the 78-83 setup since that is the desired upgrade anyway. I keep it all factory appearing. Here is a complete kit I have on hand (several are in storage at the moment) to give you an idea of a typical "kit" I've offered up before. But if you want to source some salvage yards/Ebay and parts stores you can also prolly gather up everything you need.
How much for the replacement harness section pictured? I think I have a wiring issue with mine and thats the reason it isnt working. PM me if thats available seperately.

Thanks
Paul

As a note, I did figure mine out. It works perfectly fine. I was just expecting the variability on the high setting, not the low setting. I never even tried it.

Re: Windshield wiper: 2 speed to intermittent

are the later 78+ 2 speed AND intermittent linkage the same?

I found some linkage local but it's on a 2-speed truck.

You're refering the the parts in the cowl that connect the motor to the wiper posts right? That is the same on all 73-80s as far as I know. The difference is the motor, switch and delay box like pictured earlier.

You must use 78-up linkage arm-the motor stud on 73-77 trucks are not the same as 78-up.
