Truck rallys and full hubcaps
I don't know much about hubcaps or how to mount them..
I have 5x5 truck rallys on my 63. Don't really like the look of them and can't find any stock wheels locally. Was thinking of maybe putting on some full size caps. What type of problems am I getting into? Will any late 50s caps work? |

Re: Truck rallys and full hubcaps
Ideally, you coild test fit a cap or two, but.....I can tell you that my Cadillac's caps won't fit just any ol' wheel. They utilize a special kind of balance weight on the rim so as to avoid interference. Also some rims have a lip that rolls inward which prevents the teeth on the caps from locking in.

Re: Truck rallys and full hubcaps
I totally agree with ^^^^. Only way to know for sure is to find some* you like and try them. They are installed by merely using a rubber mallet, cost a couple of bucks from Harbor Freight, and rapping along the outer diameter of the cover while holding it with free hand in place (as far as u can make it go onto the wheel with a mild pushing force, said distance not being very far). After hammering in place, they are held by 'teeth' or 'tabs' on wheel covers that bite into the wheel.
BTW: If your rallys do not have their proper center caps bolted in place [held on by 3 bolts per wheel] and do not have their beauty rings installed--you ought to install both on a trial basis. You might be surprised. They never go out of style and, in my opinion, are hard to improve on your truck's looks by swapping them to hubcaps or even aftermarket wheels. Hope this helps a little: noticed you got NO response from your 1st post--sorry! Sam *I am referring to full wheel covers--not the dog-dish type hub caps that cover only ~8" of a wheel's center. (Left-click on ^^^AcampoDave's icon to see the dog-dish type.) Last edited by luvbowties; 07-04-2017 at 07:00 AM. Reason: added info |

Re: Truck rallys and full hubcaps
These are mine when they were color matched. They are from an 86 Suburban.
